Meet Your Speech Therapist
Claire Selin, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Learning360 Founder | Speech-Language Pathologist
I am a licensed speech-language pathologist and seasoned private practice clinician. I received my B.S. in Speech & Hearing Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at Rush University, and my Ph.D. in Child Language at the University of Kansas. During my clinical fellowship, I worked at a private practice here in Chicago where I served the Southside neighborhoods through in-home early intervention and clinic-based services from birth through adolescence. While living in Kansas City for 7 years, I specialized in working with developmental language disorders and dyslexia, and I opened my first private practice. Now I have moved that practice back to Chicago, and I am thrilled to put down roots here in Hyde Park!
My doctoral and research training means that my clinical practice is cutting-edge and includes the latest research on language & literacy testing and therapy. At the heart of my clinical practice, I aim to connect with each individual student, help them see their true potential, re-engage them in learning, and create the buy-in necessary for long-term success. While I work with children as young as preschool, I have particular expertise in working with older elementary students (3rd-5th grade), middle and high school students, and adults who have fallen through the cracks of the public education system. Several of my clients have gone on to community college and universities when, years prior, some assumed that was not possible. I strongly believe in every single person's inherent ability to learn and make progress when provided targeted evidence-based intervention even when that person may not (yet) believe in themselves.
When I'm not seeing clients, you can usually find me in a coffee shop or my office working on my research projects. I am currently a research scientist at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, NE (I split my time between Chicago and Omaha) where I lead the Language, Adversity, and Stress Lab. In my lab, we research language and literacy development when children are exposed to chronic poverty, trauma, and maltreatment. Visit www.claireselin.com to learn more. I carve out plenty of non-work time, and I enjoy spending time in the great city of Chicago with my family and finding new places to eat, drink, and explore.
